Arizona Auto Accident Attorney
As an experienced auto accident attorney in Arizona even I find the most recently released car crash statistics alarming. According to http://www.azdot.gov/mvd/statistics/arizona-motor-vehicle-crash-facts, even with increases in our population, fatal crashes in Arizona decreased from 1,121 in 2006 to 709 in 2014. Sadly, that number rose to 811 in 2015. Indeed, the number of traffic deaths also rose from 774 in 2014 to 895 in 2015 – an increase of 15.63%. *
In 2015, on Arizona highways, roads, and streets:
- 80.96% of all crashes occurred in urban areas.
- The peak month for crashes was December, the peak day was Friday, and the peak hour was 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The peak date for all crashes was January 30th (635 crashes).

- 146.92 persons were injured each day, one person injured every 9.82 minutes.

- Of all pedestrian crashes, 11.44% were fatal, while 1.95% of “pedalcycle” crashes were.
- Crashes during the daylight hours (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) accounted for 75.5% of all crashes.
- The Thanksgiving weekend was the deadliest holiday in 2015 for crashes, probably because it includes a day longer than the other holidays. Otherwise, Memorial Day was the deadliest. The July 4th holiday had the most alcohol related crashes.
- The most common crash? Rear end collision.
- The most common driver violation? Speeding.
* In every crash category but three, there were increases in 2015. The three with decreases in crashes in 2015 compared to 2014: (1) “pedalcyclist” injuries down 13.02% – pedalcyclist fatalities saw no change); (2) pedestrian injuries (down 8.65% – pedestrian fatalities, however, were up 3.87%); and (3) motorcycle and passenger injuries (down 6.37% – motorcycle fatalities were up 4.69%).
