Child Support Team
We are child support team based in Mesa, Arizona. On this page, we’ll walk you through some of the key factors that are considered when determining child support obligations for either parent.
In Arizona, child support is calculated using what’s known as the Arizona Child Support Worksheet. This is essentially a detailed Excel-style spreadsheet where we input specific financial figures to determine how much support one party may owe or be entitled to receive. Some of the important numbers we enter into the worksheet include:
- Each parent's income
- Any spousal maintenance (alimony) paid by either parent
- Medical and health care costs for the child
- Child care or daycare expenses
- Amount of parenting time allocated to each parent
While there may occasionally be a few additional calculations involved, these are the primary factors used to determine child support. Once the key figures are entered, we can provide a fairly accurate estimate of the expected child support amount.
Disagreements Over Income Must Be Proven in Court
While it’s uncommon, it is possible to deviate from the calculated amount on the child support worksheet under certain circumstances.
Over time, the factors used to determine the original child support order can change. These changes may include things like:
- Change in employment status
- Job loss or unemployment
- Significant increase or decrease in income
- Changes in daycare or child care costs
- Modifications to parenting time arrangements
Modifying child support can range from straightforward to complex, depending on the specific details of your situation.
